The Skyline of the Great Plains is comprise mostly of grain elevators and silos. However, there is the occassional anomoly such the the Danish Windmill in Elk Horn, Iowa. Much like the infamous Wall Drug, the Danish entice travelers with sign that are seductive and funny. By the time a weary traveler is only a few miles away they become convinced the must see the windmill. And I was no exception, especially since my Danish friend Claus and Gita would kill me if I did not stop. So, for them I pulled off of the interstate and drove 12 miles round trip to take a picture of the Real Danish Windmill and the Danish Immigrant museum. And I would shares these pictures if the memory stick wasn't full...but at least mine isn't. I can see it now amongst the cornfields, the Authentic Danish Windmill....And speaking of other midwest experiences...my friend Kent from Nebraska says there is nothing more awesome than seeing a thunderboomer come across a flat prairie, and today I experienced that in all of it's awesome and terrifying glory. I did not know that rain drops could hit your car so hard it sounded as if I was driving a tuna can. And the lightening directly in front of me which touched the ground and lit up the sky. Kent you were right - mother nature is awesome. And tomorrow I head off onto a blue highway and through the Rockies. Until next time...
